Otautau Town Board.

The monthly meeting was held yesterday evening when there were present :— Messrs Liddell (chairman), Matheson, Scatter, Harrington, Georgeson, Boyd and Stevens. The clerk was instructed to advise the Registrar of Dogs that all dog taxes must be collected forthwith, m compliance with the law, and that oattle and sheep dogs were not exempt if owned by 'other than a person making his living from them. Mr Stevenson asked for the use of the Hall at 20a weekly. — Resolved that Mr Stevenson be informed that the Board adheres to its old rate of 25a weekly. Mr Stevenson also to be informed that his method of advertising m Otautau, namely, sticking programmes on the asphalt footpaths, is not conducive to the cleanliness of ths town, and that he be asked to desist. A. Farrelly wrote with reference to some gravelling on road opposite his house. — This request-was left to the Works Committee, with power to act. Flans and specifications of houses (S), submitted by Messrs Thomson and Sutherland for Mr W. Flett m SfortiY Otautau were approved. The surfaceman reported as to the cheapest method of making Olitheroe street passable m winter. — The matter was left m the hands of the Works Committee. The Sscretary of the Southland League wrote asking financial support towards the publication of a book advertising Southland. — The clerk was instructed to inform the League that if the work was carried out, the Board would assist to the extent of £5. A deputation, consisting of Messrs L. M. Thomson R. Stenhouse, J. B. - Kirk and <O. Renowden, was heard by the Board with reference fo the bank at the foot of Ford's Hill. They urged the Board to have that part of the bank coining under their, jurisdiction strengthened, and made as strong and complete as the River Board's bank. The bank required to be made higher, and also wider at the base. The chairman thanked the deputation, who withdrew — It was resolved that the whole Board inspect the bank' this evening at 7 p.m. A motion was. passed that all outstanding rates after 27th March prox. have 10 • per cent, penalty adclerl. ■''■-.■■ J The chairman reported having made satisfactory arrangements'with the Board's banker.
