LADY BELLRINGERS

Some i short time ago, the ' Challenge ' recalls, a wealthy native of Appledore., Devon, presented to tin* parish church a peal of eight bells. A party of lady church workers at once placed their services at the disposal of the vicar, with the result that oh July 1, 1913,*. Mr Pyke, of Appledore, an expert ringer, gav3 the ladies their fir^t lesson m ringing. At Easter this yeai* the ladies gave their first public performance by ringing a peal at a local wedding. The ladies now ring regularly every week. Some idea of the work ' may be gathered from the fact that the tenor bell weighs llcwt, and yet, through all the training, not a stay has been broken. *
