Poole, ordered to pay £2 17s, by lst August m default 7 days imprisonment ; D. McGregor v. Chas- Thomas, ordered to pay £1 17s .2d on 15th August m defau't 14 days imprisonment ; J. T. Hunter v. Chas. Price, ordered to pay £2 4s 4d on lst August m default 7 days imprisonment. Defended Cases. J. N. Brown v. M. Prendeville, 1 claim £10 19s Ud. Defendant m n< evidence said he was a married man with a wife and 7 children. He was employed m the Nightcaps Coal Mine and earned 9s 6d a day. The magistrate refused to make an order. O'Beirne and Keddell v. Wm. Saunders, claim for £60 7s 6d, £34 of *which had been paid into court. This case was held over from last sitting, .end the magistrate said he had had lhe bill of costs taxed by the Taxation Officer and as a result he had decided to make a net reduction of £7 9d od, and judgement would be entered accordingly. O'Beirne and Keddell v. F. H. Freeman, claim for £2 12s 6d, cost of preparing an agrement. This case was also continued from last sitting, the evidence of Frank Crawford being taken at Christchurch m the meantime, this being to the effect that defendant had agreed to pny the cost. Judgment for idaintiffs for £2 12s 6d, costs £1 3s. In the case of R. Cupples v. N, Hetton, judgment was given for plaintiff for amount claimed, £2 12s 6d, costs £2 Is. J. B. Oosgrove, Truant Inspector, proceeded against H Watson, Aparima, charged with failing to send a child to sohool nnder the requirements of the Education Act. Defendant r pleaded not guilty and gave particulars how the child was m his care. He wished the child to be committed to the Industrial School as none of its \£elations would assume its charge. J>6onvicted and fined 2.«, coßts 7*, the boy to be committed to the Industrial School. Police Cases. Police v. John Forde, Fairfax, charged with being drunk at the Drummond Ploughing Match, on 2nd July, and alao with procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order. Mr Anderson appeared for defendant. Constable McClinohey stated that three previous convictions had been recorded a gains t accused* Convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. . Police v. J. Coughlin, surfaceman, charged with threatening behaviour with intent to provoke a breach of the peace m Main Street, Otautau. Accused pleaded guilty, an I was convicted and fined £1, costs 7s.

W. Walker, Waikouro was similiarly charged, but did not appear and was convicted and fined £2.

A conviction was recorded against a Nightcaps youth fpr theft of a watch valued at 15s 6d from an employee of the Nightcaps Coal Company. A local resident was fined 5s f* allowing a horse to wander.
