MILLIONAIRE MURDER TRIAL.
Edward Throckmorton, the prinoipal witness for the prosecution m what is known as the " millionaire's murder trial " at J?ort Worth, Texas, died last night (February 1) m the local hospital from poison, which/ the prosecution alleges, was secretly placed m his food to prevent him giving evidence. The caee, which has caused a tremendous sensation m Texas, concerns the murder of Captain A. G. Boyce, sen., a septuagenarian millionaire ranch owner, by Mr J. B. Snead, another local millionaire ranch owner. As cabled yoi three wesks ago, Mr Snead's wife eloped with Captain Boyce's son, and although the husband persuaded her to return home, he shot Captain Boyca beoause he was unable to wreak vengeai.ee on the son. The affair has been very nearly responsible for a -sanguinary vendetta, for Texuis have taken sides, and it was only with the greatest difficulty that the Boyce partisans, who greatly outnumber the Snead faction, were prevented from lynching the murlerer. The millionaire himself insisted upon being kept m gaol from the date of his arrest until the commencement of the trial, and m this ha was undoubtedly well advised. All the witnesses of the tragedy, with the single exception of Throckmorton, have disappeared, and the trial, which was to have commenced on Tuesday, had to be adjourned because of his illness, which terminated fatally last night. It seems probable that the case will collapse. Spectators, witnesses, and even jurymen waiting to be sworn m have been searched daily for concealed weapons. — New York correspondent 'Daily Chronicle.'
