Afternoon Sports.
The afternoon sports meeting which, marked the close of the Otautau AmetMUf Athletic. Club's track season was got of on k Sat"»lay but was not the success of previous meetings, a light rain falling most of the time being somewhat accountable, but the lack of "go" on tbe part of the officials was the real trouble and it was a pity to see tbe control fall beldlf tin club's usual high standard. The attendant was a fair one, but fell below expectation*. Music was provided at intervals by the Otautau Brass Band and the lady f ritnds of the club provided afternoon tea, which was greatly appreciated. G. P. Keddell was billed to attempt a new world's record for the 220 yards Hurdles but was not m the best of health and only turned out m the 100 yds. 'The outstanding feature of the meeting^ however, was the boy's pole vault which waff won by C. Marshall from scratch. He is justi thirteen years of age, aud yon afc the height of 7ft sj.ns, later clearing 7ft 6jns. Chjef interest centred ;n the contest for the President's Cup, which was to bo finally decided on the day's points.
Previous to the commencement,, tlie leaders were A. McFarlane 21, and 0. E. Robertson 20 1-3 and the contest was practically confined to these two. Previous to the running of the last event, the points were 30 1-3 to 28 m favour of Robertson, but the latter ran second m the Bracelet and thus clinched the ownership of the cup for the year. The details are as follows. 1. — Boy's 100 Yards Hahdicaf. Under 16 years. — 1 A. Marshall, 2F. Harrington. 2. — 440 Yards Novici Hahdicap. 1 C. Sutherland sydt, 2 W.Harrington 22jds. Also started— J. Moore 25yds. Sutherland caught hit. field about half way and won easily. 3.— Halt-mil.! Walx Handicap. 1 C. E. Robertson 10yds, 2 D. Frew 25yds. Also itarted — T. Stddon XOyd;, S.
