One ladder match was played last week, the contestants being Miss Brown and Miss Brooker (challenger), the latter winning 9-2. Tbe scores are hardly an indication of tin equality of the play, the game being a well contested struggle, both playing^ fine steady game. The marked improvement of these and other lady players is very noticeable. The Championship Combined Double, which was set down for Friday, was played off, Miss Brown and Mr Thomas beating Miss Djnnan and Mr Macpherson. The game was splendidly conteste 3, f 8 the score will show, the onlookers being treated to a fin 9 display of tennis. Miss Donnan and Mr Macpherson won the first set 6-4. Their opponents, howeYtr, livened up considerably and annexed the two remaining sets 7-5 and 8-6. The winners were m great form and they are deserving of hsarty congratulations on their performance, the win being, m the main, due to the fine net play of Thomas and Miss Brown's splendid lobbing.

It is understood that Nightcaps ara desirous of crossing racquets with tne local club.

Two of the games m the Ladies' Singles Handicap were playtd on Saturday night. That between Miss Gibson, 18, and Miss Scatter, 20, proved an easy victory for the latter, who has greatly improved since the handicaps appeared. The final score was 50-23. The other game was between Miss Gardiner . scr, and Miss Brooker 15. Miss Gardiner has not been practising much of late, but nevertheless she made .a gallant attempt to get up, ji-sfc losing by 6 strokes. Miss Brooker, who generally plays a fine steady game, appeared very nervous. The score 3 were 40-34. Thb, championship matches to be played this week are as follows : Miss Gardiner v Miss Crawford on Monday night ; Richards and Gilman v Parmenter and parlnar on Tuesday night; Miss Ford and Richards v. Miss Fisher and .Robertson on Thursday night, and' Miss lieddell and G. Keddell v Miss Brooker and Parmenter on Friday night. The first of ib.3 B grade inter-club matches will be played on the local court on Wednesday, when the Winton B team will journey over and meet Otautau B. The following will represent Otautau : Misses Crawford, Brown, Brooker, Gibson, and Messrs Brown, Macpherson, Dencker ,s Wesney, Parmenter, and Dr. Stewart.

The following is the draw ior the second round of the Ladies' Handicap Singles :—

Miss Crawford 8 v Miss Brown 15 Miss Swap 5 v winner of Miss Mar shall 20 and Miss Ford 15.

Miss Dahlenburg 20 v Miss Brooker 15.
