Otautau Town Board.
The fortnightly meeting of the Board was held m the Standard Buildings on Monday evening, Mr Salton m the chair, all the members being present wi'h the exception of Messrs Terapleton and Georgeson. BUILDING PERMITSJ. R. Corkhill submitted plan for erection of a 6 roomed dwelling on part of sections 1G aud 17, bloc's V, North Otautau. — Specification not m order. Application referred back to the writer, with notification if proper specification be prepared and submitted to Building Committee, application would be granted. R. Ford asked permission to erect a wood and iron stable on section 16, 1 block VI, Otautau,. to replace the one recently destroyed by fire at rear of Railway Hotel. The building would be over 66ft from any street line. — Application granted, subject to plans and specifications, to be submitted to 'Building Committee, fefting approved J. R. Corkhill askerr^permission to i erSet a 6- stalled stable, 24 x 10, on. Methodist Cnurch section, building to be of wots3? ? "alicl iron. — Application granted. RAILWAY "CROSSINGS- ! The District Engineer, Invercargill, wrote m reference to the view at level crossings over any roilway, pointing out that the onus of improving the view at these crossings is now placed on the local authority. — Received, BYLAWS PERTAINING TO PUBLTO HEALTH-
, H. E. Finch, District Health Officer, forwarded copy of bylaws drawn up for the use of smaller boroughs and towns- As the matter of making bylaws under the Public Health was being held up meantime, he suggested that the Board postpone any action m connection with the matter of Public Health bylaws for the present. — R&4 caived. f CORONATION HALL. In reply to the Board's application for payment of the Coronation subsidy towards the costjc&tae erection of the Town Hall and Library, the Minister of Internal Affairs wrote that the matter had been referred to the Department for payment. — Received. STREET CONTRACTS. It was decided to notify all contractors that all contracts must be completed at onceRECREATION GROUND.
The chairman reported that a considerable amount of work had been done on the recreation grounds, the stones having been removed, some levelling done, and fresh grass planted m - different places. Considerable damage had been done to the grounds by straying horses, which came through the new road from Bird and 3whan's subdivision. — It was decided to fence the latter temporarily. nALF-HOLIDAY TOLL. The clerk reported that the poll regarding the Wednesday half-holiday proposal fur factories had b|£.n taken, and had resulted m the proposal being carried by 22 votes to 3. ; — Received. HORSES. Mr^aHajpjbaited'Sh the Boaid, and drew atteytiw to the dangerous practice off/|iriving horses unb altered through the streets, accidents being narrowljs&averted on Saturday from horses net under control. — It. was decided that the surfaceman be instructed to warn the offender, and to notify that the next similar occurrence would necessitate court proceedings. FIRE PREVENTION. It was decided to authorise the captain of fie Fire Brigade to again test the well with the engine to ascertain the supply of water available, men to be engaged by him for a half-hour trial. WATER. SUPPLY. A long discussion ensued regarding the engagement of the engineer to give an estimate regarding the bringing m of water from Butler's creek. Messrs At and T. Burt, of Dunedin, whose representative had pieviously met members, offered to supply an estimate for the proposed work free of charge and unconditionally. — It was decided to accept this offer.
