CAMBRIDGE PRODIGY
ANOTHER TRIUMPH FOR MR J. R
BUTLER.
Yet another laurel has been gained by Mr J. R. M. Butler,, of Trinity College, Cambridge, whose career throughout has been marked by a success which it is safe to say is unprecedented. A speaker, an actor, a rowing man, his activities have not been limited to his studies, m which his success has been so remarkable.
He has been president' of the Union ; he took the leading part iii the triennial Greek play, ' The Wasps,' m 1909 ; and his successes m scholarship, it is hardly an exaggeration to say, have been only limited by the prizes offered. He has now secured the first Chancellor's classical medal, and it would seem as if nothing remains for him but to win the prizes over again. . Son of the master of Trinity, Mr J. R. M. Butler, "established a record in' 1909 by becoming senior classic, an honor secured by both his father, Dr ft. M. Butler, and his mother, formerly Miss Agitata Frances Ramsay. Mr J. R. M. Butler's career really began at Harrow, where, at seventeen, he won a major scholarship at Trinity.
His list of prizes includes : — v A major scholarship (1907). Winchester Reading Prize (1907). Porson Scholarship (1908). Craven University Scholarship (1909). Browne medal for Latin Ode (1908). Browne medal for Greek Ode, twice (1909). Porson prize for Greek Verse (1910). Powis medal for Latin hexameters (1910). Chancellor's classical medal (1911)-.
Mr Butler is not yet twenty-two years of age. (
