Ladybirds appear to be doing excellent work m Hawke's Bay orchards. The Orchard Inspector m Hawke's Bay reports to the 'Agricultural Journal' that on visiting several orchards m and around Hastings, Avhich are somewhat badly infested with woolly aphis, or American blight, ho has noticed a common New Zealand ladybird — the eleven spotted ladybird — doing* good work by feeding upon the aphis. He states that closer observation extending over several days clearly demonstrated that these useful little insects effected a very considerable improvement m the condition of affected trees — m some instances the trees were almost cleaned. This ladybird is readily recognised as of red color, with eleven black spots.
