OTAOTAUv. SCOTT'S GAP SCHOOLS MATCH.
(Contributed). The above match took place at the Gap oh Saturday and created quite a stir among the residents it being the first football contest held at that place. McKay kicked off for Scott's Gap, Forbes returning with a long kick into touch. From the line out Fraser secured the ball and passed to Cupples, who was grassed qn the line, a force down resulting. From the kick out Mathieso secured, and running strongly scored at the corner. The kick failed. Some give and take play followed, until the Gap forwards broke away, but the Otautau full-back saved with a timely kick. For an infringement the I Gap boys were penalised, and Fraser succeeded m putting the ball over the bar. From the kick out the ball was returnel by Fisher, McKay snapped up cleverly and streaked for the line, backed up by F. McKay, Kennedy and Dickson, and a score seemed certain, but the last named was bowled over at I the line by Fisher, and Otautau forced ; down. From the kick out the Otautau forwards? followed up fast, and | getting the ball at their toe, carried it to the Gap 35, where from a sorum, Otautau secured, the ball going from Small to Cupples and on to Forbes, who scored. Half-time was then called. Fraser kicked off, and tbe ball was returned by McKay to halfway. From a loose scrum Collins secured and put m a good run to Ctautau's 26, where he passed to Grant, who was grassed m time by Fisher. Otautau then turned defence into attack and swept down the ield with a forward rush, whioh was stopped by I|Fraser. Scott's Gap were again penalised, and by fast following i upJOtautau carried} the ball to the line ' where Wilson scored. Fron. the kick i out the Gap forwards followed up fast ' and seemed determinned to make a | score, but the defence was too solid. From a scrum Otautau secured, the ] ball being handled by Fraser, Cupples, Mathieson and Fisher, the latter being pushed out at the corner,. From a long throw m Forces secured and scored, " no goal resulting, __'ie whistle then sounded time, Mr Thos Fordo gave every satisfaction as referee, ana Messrs Fraser anp F. Molvor acted as line umpires. At the conclusion of the game the boys were treated to lunch in' the hall, and left for home about 4 o'clock amid the cheers of the Gap lads.
A team from Otautau journeyed to Nightcaps on Saturday, and were defeated hy 8 points to nil. .
