THE SOCTETY OF FRIENDS.

For a few years it has almost 6eemed that the Society of Friends would gradually decline because of their more or less stationary statistics. But last year there was some improvement, and this year a decided increase has been reported. For its parallel we must go back several years. The British yearly meetings, including the adherents m Australasia and the Continent of Europe, show an improvement of 242, but it is significant that by far the larger part of this increase is made up by 226 on the Continent. The total number of British members is 23,764. In Canada and the United States, where the numbers are at least four times greater — namely, 94,603 — and, including the allied mission stations, numbering a membership of 3,554, the increase is reported as 2,818. The total net gain throughout the world is 3,060, and these additions now givo the society a strength of 121,921.
