MR HENRY RA.VENSCROFT,
A feeling of profound and sincere regret was experienced throughout the town and district on Sunday morning, when it was reported that Mr Henry Ravenscroffc had passed away at his residence, Yellow the previous evening, at 10 o'clock. The late Mr Ravenscrof t was a man of strong individuality, and of a genial and manly nature that made him very much liked, and greatly respected by a wide circle of friends. Mr Ravenscroft's illness was of such short duration that death came as a great shock. A robust and powerful man, he might have been looked upon to enjoy a long life. Too keen attendance to work, at which he was always vigorous and wholehearted, had taken him out m some of the recent unseasonable weather, m which he had got wet and contracted a cold, leading on to influenza, and culminating m inflammation of the lungs of a Pvirulent type, which speedily proved fatal, The district looses an upright an useful citizen m Mr Ravensoroft. Not given to ostentation, he was a man of striking worth, and gave his services ungrudgingly to what was for the good of the community. Mr Ravensoroft, at his death, was a member of the Otautau school committee, on which his practical advice was of more than usual value, and it was largely owing to his efforts that the grounds were so muoh improved at the beginning of the year. Asa vestryman of the Otautau Anglican Church, he will be greatly missed by his fellow office-bearers Mr Ravenscrpft was also a member of the Lodge Wallace Masons. Of his home life it may be said he was a model bunband, and father, his cheerful, breezy nature made him greatly beloved by children, and hjs death has made swch a blank m his family as can only be realised by those who have experienced like affliction. To his wife and family of five children the heartfelt sympathy of the entire district h tendered.
