Arrangements for the general eleotion are well m hand throughout Wallace, and from t >c list of polling places, published m to-day's issue, it will be seen that even wider facilities have been provided for eleotors recording their votes than previously. .The Returning Officer for Wallace holds a special court on Friday m the Otautau Town Hall, at 12 o'olock noon, and at the court ho lse Riverton, at 4.15 p.m, to oonsider nominations for the appointment of scrutineers for the licpnsing poll on the 6th December. The many friends of Mr R. McKenzie, of Birohwood, will regret to learn of his very severe illness, pneumonia following upon influenza. Mr McKenzie has been critically ill, but we are glad to learn is now on the turn for the better. Mr W. Saunders, returning officer for Wallace publishes m another oolumn the names of the polling-booths throughout Wallace for the general eleotion and licensing poll, also tbe names of the candidates standing for Parliament. Lionel Terry, who was arrested for the murber of a chinaman m Hainiog street Wellington, some weks ago, has been . sentenced to death, with a • Btrong- recommendation to mercy. .-.-•■-.■ '' I Mr Alio Saunders, who left over a year ago | fir South Africa, and who has had a very. , varied, and at times, exciting experience m some of the remote parts of the dark continent, was a passenger from Capetown m the Union Steamship Co.,s new turbine steamer Maheno, but unfortunately had to remain behind m hospital m Melbourne, owing to severe illness. To nurse him through his illness Mrs Saunders, his mother, left a week ago for Melbourne, and now tbe friends are anxiously awaiting news of his condition. The fair and sale of work promoted by the ladies of the' Otautau Cirouit Methodist Churoh, opens m the Town Hall to-morrow, and will prove a great attraction to the large number of visitors who are sure to be here for the Wallace Show. Many beautiful, as well as useful artioles, will be on sale, and there are numerous attractions m connection witb the fair that will well repay a viei**.. A special feature is being made of providing visitors to the town with refreshments, ample provision having been made m this direction, and for a very modest oharge visitors oan I have every attention and refreshments required. Mr William Ross, who died at his resi donee, Otautau, on Saturday morning, although a comparatively recent arrival, having been previously a resident of Palmerston, was very much respected and esteemed by the ojjcle of friends he had made, his quiet, unobtrusive nature gaining the affection of those more closely intimate wi^h him. Mr Ross had readied a good fine age, and had been m failing health for sometime.; The sympathy of the distriot goes out to the relatives m their bereavement
