The Tapanui Murder.

O '- VEBDICT OF « NOT GUILTY." The hearing of the oharge against Stott and Bromley of having murdered Ham Sing Tong atTapanui, was concluded at Dunedin on Thursday. No evidenoe was called for the defenoe. Mr Hanlon, m his address to the jury, said there were too many presumptions m the case for the Crown. He made a strong point of the circumstantial evidence being as strong, if not stronger, against one of the Crown witnesses as against the accused. After over an hour's retirement the jury returned to ask whether a verdiot of "not proven" was equivalent to "not guilty." His Honor said it was exactly the same. The jury retired and again returned with a verdiot of ♦•not guilty." * '■ '■' ■-■r a/ mmmmmmmtm^mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm^mmmmmm^mmm
