Church Concert at Waiau.

La3t Wednesday erenin.^ a concert m con- ' nection with the Waiau M ssion charge was held m the PuUio Hall, Eastern Bush. The first p„rt of the programme consisted of a seiyice of wig, entitled "A Christmas Story,'' rendered by the choir, the readings heii'g ' given ly Mr Pob^ inson. The musical selections, with perhaps one exception, were very nicely sung by the choir, and were as follows ; — "Come all Ye Faithful;" "Home, Light Home," " They are waiting," " Beautiful Home so bright," and •« Hark the Herald Angels sing." The audience was most appreciative from first to last, and seemed to thoroughly enjoy both the musical and narrative portions of the work. Of the narrative itself, which is from tbe pen of that modern gifted writer, Miss Ellen TKorneycroft Fowler, it may be mentioned that its purpose adorably gives point and practical meaning to the words of the Master — " Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these, my brethern, ye have done.it unto me." -

Prior to proceeding with, the second- part of the programme, refreshments were served by the ladies, and all did justice to the good things provided. Miss Fahey. then rendered that admirable song, "Calvary," and Mr E. Beggs, of Belmont, followed, giving several fine selections on his phonograph- The next item on the programme was a Bong by Mr Eobinson, " True till death," after which Mr A. Miller, of Clifden, gave a fine rendering of " The Holy City." Miss Campbell then sang " Sitting by the Wayside." After another song had been given by Mr Bobinson, entitled " A Warrior Bold," Mr Beggs concluded an excellent programme by a further choice selection of songs and quartettes on the phonograph, the final piece being a reoord Bung by Mr Mitchell (the lata missionary) called Hark, 'tis the Shepherd's Voioe I hear." Each and all of Mr Beggs' phonographic selections won muoh applause from the audience and the best thanks of all is due to Mrs Gow of Feldwiok, for the admirable manner m which she rendered the aooompaniments on the organ. A vote of thanks to the choir, Mrs Gow, Mr Beggs, the ladies and others was ably proposed by Mr Darley and carried with enthusiasm. On returning home our one regret was that these, social gatherings were not held more frequently, for the sake of true human fellowship and happiness.
