WAIRIO NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent) The fine spell of dry weather which we have experienced for the last month broke to-day (Tuesday), and several heavy snow and hail showers have fallen. This is a great pity, as people were all getting on well with their spring work. It is the intention of the Wrey's Bush, Opio and Aparima branches ot the Farmers' Union to amalgamate ; and, to celebrate the event, and also to infuse more vigour into the combined branch, they intend holding a monster social m Mr fc Stroud's barn» at Wrey's Bush on September the 18th. It is a pity that farmers do not take a greater interest m the Union, and give it more practical support, but I understand that a great many refrain from joining it on account of its political tendencies, which I think the Union would be wise to delete from its programme. A largely-signed requisition is to be presented to a well-known local
farmer and ex-member for the Wairio Riding, to contest the seat again at the forthcoming County Council elections. I am informed that the well-known local horse-trainer and jockey, C. Church, has fallen heir to a large property m the Poverty Bay (N.1.) district, by the death of a relative. Church, who is a popular and unassuming young man, is to be congratulated. The Rev. Father Walsh, of Wrey's Bush, who has been sojourning m Central Otago for the past three months for the benefit of his health, is much better and has again resumed his duties. Father O'Neill, who was at Wrey's Bush during Father Walsh's absence, has been removed to Port Chalmers.
