INFANT LUNCHROOM

OPENING FUNCTION BENEFIT TO CHILDREN To mark the completion of the Infant school lunchroom, an enjoyable function was organised by the school staff yesterday afternoon at 3.45 p.m. A number of parents, Mr. H. E. Collins (chairman of the school committee) and Mr. P. C. Hill (the district representative on the Taranaki Education Board) and staff personnel beingpresent. A really sumptuous afternoon tea was prepared in Miss Hinkey's department and served u the new lunchroom, the guests remarking on the excellent amenities and general suitability of the rooms for the purpose.

Mr. Collins wellcomed Mr. Hill and all present. and briefly outlined the committee's activities in securing and converting the Kina Road school for lis present use, the' total cost of which was £ll6. He felt it was a credit to all concerned and that parents should be well satisfied. He stated that 120 children used the room daily. Referring to Mrs. A. M. Trotter's fine contribution through the recent Operetta, Mr. Collins asked her to accept a gift of a bedside reading lamp, as a tangible expression of appreciation. Mrs. Trotter suitably replied. Mr. Hill in congratulating the committee and all concerned on the forward move, .said he was a staunch advocate of modern lunchrooms in schools, and he felt that, when the new school block was completed, surplus buildings could be put to no better use. Mr. E. ,J. McLaughlin (headmaster) endorsed Mr. Hill's remarks, emphasing v that children need anil deserve the best of lunchroom facilities as much as adults working in similar communal groups.
