YEAR’S ACTIVITIES
PLAYREADERS’ CLUB ANNUAL DEPORT Reviewing' a successful se.ison, the president of the Opunake Playreaders’ Club, Mr. D. M. -Tillett, stated ; A very successful and enjoyable year’s play-reading further consolidated the club’s position, and with two very well attended public evenings in the Drill Hall, it appears the play-readiug is a recognised feature of Opunake life.
Plays; Apart from tire plays read on the two public evenings, most of the plays read were coni' edies. This was not really the intention of the selection committee who met at the beginning of the season, but it just happend that the only two plays abandoned during the year were of the heavier type and that some of our first choices had to be changed. The committee would welcome a discussion on the type of play to be read this year. Ten plays were read on ordinary club nights, four one-acts and a full play being presented on public nights, while the produced play presented at the Peek-a-800 Revue was very well received. The total number of parts cast was 119, and nine different people acted as producers, demonstrating a spread of responsibility which is pleasing, as it is good for the club to be able to call on different people as producers. In this respect the casting committee were of assistance, as they endeavoured to spread out “he parts among those available, and it simplified the producer’s task to have the cast decided. Inevitably some last minute changes had to be made because of sickness, and the casting committee wishes to thank those who filled in at many last moments. Properties; This year we :oncentrated our middle of the year efforts on obtaining curtains and a lighting float, which have greatly added to the finished effect of our readings. Special thanks are due to the Vestry committee for permission to install these, and as well we wish to record our appreciation of their co-operation at all timesMembership: The number oi financial members has dropped slightly this year, as many people elected to pay for each separate reading. The membership was as follows Readers : 28. Non-readers: 14. Visitors: 105. Thanks: Readers, non-read-ers, supper workers, orchestra members and all others who helped to make the season enjoyable and successful are offered the thanks of the club. The Opunake Times, too, is deserving of thanks for space made available for reports of club activities.
