ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS
TARANAKI INTEREST
According to a statement issued by the New Zealand Marching and Recreation Association, the word “Recreation” was deleted from its title by resolution of their recent Annual General Meeting which was attended by 34 delegates from IT Centres. This was done in accordance with a promise made last April at a conference of the Association with the New Zealand Marching Union and in terms' of the decision of this conference, the Union is now required to affiliate with the Association. The Association’s North Island Championship will be held in Palmerston North, and the South Island Championship in Nelson, the organisation being in the hands of the Manawatu and Nelson Centres respectively. The New Zealand Championship will be held in Wellington.
The official March Plan for the coming season has been approved and will be issued to all affiliated Associations, through their as soon as copies are available from the printers. Members of teams will be interested to know that the plan does not include alternative movements, that all turns are as laid down in the Military Manual of Elementary Drill and that the signals of the team leader may be given either verbally or by whistle.
The newly elected President, Lt. Col. G. P. O’Leary, 0.8’E., said that the Annual i Meeting was most successful and augured well for the future of the sport under one control. He was hopeful that the two remaining centres—Wanganui and Taranaki—would quickly he formed so that all the teams in those areas could participate in qll .the competitions of the New Zealand Marching Association.
