Of the total revenue from taxes £63,581,244, or £35 1-7 a head, was obtained from direct taxes on income, including social security charge. This was equal to 52 per cent, of the. An application to lease the brick part of the' old Stratford primary school building was received a‘t a meeting of the Stratford , Borough Council recently from a firm which stated that it wished to establish a factory for the manufacture of underwear in the town. The council agreed lo enter into negotiations with the firm, which . stated. that after .most towns in the North Island had been surveyed, Stratford was chosen as the most -suitable site for the enterprise. It was stated that the firm would employ about 60 persons and pay wages to the, extent < f £.16,000 annually.

Repartee. I remember overbearing a conversation between two workers from rival shipyards on the Tyne.
