COMBINED TOURNEY

RUGBY AND BASKETBALL HELD AT RAHOIU Twenty-one junior seven-a-side Rugby football teams and 19 basketball teams, eleven junior and eight senior, took part in tournaments organised by the Rahotu Rugby Football Club and the Rahotu Basketball Club at Rahotu on Saturday. Excellent weather favoured the tourna' ments and a good clay's sport was watched by a large attendance.

The Rugby final was won by a Wainiate B team which, in a very willing game, beat Rahotu A by six points to three, to win the Whittle Shield, previously held by Pungarehu. With the shield, a silver cup was presented to each member of the winning side bv the president of the Rahotu Club, Mr. G. W. Butler, who congratulated the team on coming through the tournament without defeat. The senior- basketball tournament was narrowly won by Elthorn, after a hard game with Riverlea, 6-5 Junior honours went to a New Plymouth Convent A side, which defeated Opunake District High School. The Green Cup, for the senior division, and the Dawson Cup for the junior, were presented by Mrs. G. Riordan, president of the Rahotu Basketball Club. She referred to the -high standard of play in the tournament and complimented players on their keenness and sportsmanship. Results were: Rugby First round: Pungarehu A 8 v.
