SCHOOL AFFAIRS

HEADMASTER’S REPORT TUNA SCHOOL IN USE The Headmaster, Mr. F. J. McLaughlin, reported as follows : Poll: Primary, 336, Secondary, 140. It is of interest to note that at this date last year the figures were : Primary 305 and Secondary 101. Temporally Accommodation The Tuna Road building is now erected and the pupils from the Masonic Hall have moved in. The small room, 18ft. by 15ft. is not yet occupied. We have thought of turning this info' a School library, but the roll numbers for next year will have some bearing on its future use. Sports Gear The Primary sports gear authorised to be purchased last meeting has come to hand, and the accounts are now in the hands of the Secretary. School Functions 1. Forms I and II Social and Dance: This was well attended and an enjoyable evening resulted.. 2. Stds. 2, 3 and 4 Fancy Dress Social and Dance: Also well attended, and a vsuccess in every way. A pleasing feature of both functions was tlie interest shown by parents, who attended in large numbers. The credit balance from the two functions was £6-10-0. At a meeting of the staff and pupils it was recommended that £b of Ibis be naid into the Special Fund to help towards the recent heavy outlay on sports material, and £l-10-0 for books for the Teachers’ Reference Library. Visiting Committee

Messrs. Hickey and Martin visited tile school at 11 a.m. on 3rd inst. The following were brought before their notice: 1. Congestion of Playing Area in the Primary School. 2. Tlie path from the corner of the High School to the oldWoodwork Room. 3. Steps from the Tennis Court. 4. Fence and drain in front of Manual Block. 5. Grass on Infant Grounds. Gala Day As this function takes place early in December, I would suggest that a working committee from the School Committee, the Home and School Association and the Staff be set up, in order to go into the preliminary organization necessary.
