N.Z.’s NATURAL CLAYS SURVEY TO BE MADE A greater use of New Zealand’s extensive non-metallic deposits • s expected to result from extended and intensified investigations in their field which are to be undertaken by the Department of Science and Industrial Research. The investigating work is to bo done by an officer who is recognised as the outstanding authority in the Dominion on the composition of the country’s natural clays, Mr. L. R. L. Dunn, It is claimed that this officer has already collected a considerable amount of data on the burning properties of clay deposits in the Dominion, and as new deposits, including feldspar, are discovered by the geological survey their value will be assessed. There will be a close collaboration with the Pottery and Ceramic Research Association and the industry to ensure the immediate application* of the results of the scientific work. This is expected ;o benefit the building industry, the manufacture of many earthenware products ann the national economy in general.
