ENGINEER’S REPORT MAINTENANCE WORK The County Engineer, Mr. R. S. Martin submitted the following report at the meeting of the Egmont. County Council held last Tuesday Construction Watino Road Culvert: Advice has been received from the Public Works Department that the alternative box culvert submitted is not acceptable and an alternative mass concrete box culvert will be submitted during the current month. A revised price will have to be obtained from the contractor. Dirty Man Creek Bridge: In order to try and expedite _ the delivery of steel for this structure I interviewed the local Member of Parliament, Mr. E. B. Corbett. Mr. Corbett’s reply and a reply from the Minister _of Works; ' show the position to be fairly hopeless at the moment and if nothing eventuates within the next month I would suggest the best course to be to allow the contractor to enter upon the contract and build his temporary bridge and then waif the arrival of the steel. Maintenance Highways: Ihaia Road, Rahotu Kahui, Opunake Rawhitiroa. Metal lengths patched and graded, water-tables and outlets cleaned, some drains have been cleaned and metal run out where necessary. Riding Maintenance Kekehu Road: Extensive repairs were necessary following the wet weather and extraordinary traffic due to the shifting of a house on this road. Other Riding roads have been patched, metalled where necessary and general cleaning of watertables and outlets has been attended to. The Power grader has operated on a number of roads in the various ridings. Up.- Waiteifta Road : The remetalling of this road is now completed, and the road surface is now quite a reasonable one. Bridge Maintenance A start with the bridge main*tenance programme is to be made during the current week. Property Maintenance A new tank spouting and downpipe has been erected at the Rahotu Depot to replace the existing fixtures which are beyond repair. Two new skylights have been put in at the Opunalco Depot considerably improving working conditions in the workshop and a hedge has been planted around the mechanics residence. Plant Plant has operated free of major trouble during the period. All plant has been properly serviced during the period and has received the necessary care and attention to keep it in reasonable running order.
