QUEEN CARNIVAL

PROVINCIAL BAROMETER COASTAL STILL AHEAD Last week Provincial voting figures in the Taranaki Rugby Queen Carnival again gave the Coastal candidate pride of place, Miss Dawn Corric being the ruling Queen with over 68,000 votes. Miss I. Boyd, Central had polled 64,000 votes. The Southern and Northern figures are not impressive at this stage, particularly the former, but it is understood that the Combined Patea district Bands are also conducting a Queen Carnival which would account for the wide margin of votes. The leading Central .candidate is Miss L. Boyd, Stratford, 24,000 votes, with Miss P. Bennie, Kaponga, next, 2L200 votes. Eltham’s princess, Miss B. Morton had polled 17,967 up tci the end of last week. The Northern Queen, Miss T. Tocker claimed a total of 46,000 votes. The other princesses are still under the 10, ■ 000 mark. Provincial voting was as follows : Coastal Miss D. Conic ••• 68,157 Central Miss I. Boyd ... 64,000 Northern Miss L. Locke ... 46,000 Southern Miss I. Guy ... 14,000 Successful House Party A further successful house party, in aid of ’*Miss Yelma Hickey’s effort for the Rugby Queen Carnival took place at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. I. El,gar on Saturday evening, a large number of supporters attending. Various games and suitable competitions were enjoyed and a dainty supper was also served, a most entertaining and thoroughly pleasant evening resulting.

RAHOTU SOCIALS VARIOUS COMPETITIONS Mesdames S. Pollock, H. Clarke and E. Macßae were honlesaes at a flag five-hundred afternoon held in the Rahotu Bowling Club pavilion in aid of th€' local candidate Miss D. Corric. Prize-winners were Mesdames E. McDavitt, G. Butler, W. Butler and E. Lowry first, Mesdames H. Pennington, L. Wood, E. Macßae and Mr. P. Mansoor consolation. Travel- 1 ling prizes were won by Mrs. S. Kahua and Mr. A. Mischefski. Competition winners were Mrs. Hill and Mr. J. Patten. Mr. and Mrs. A. Coleman were hostesses at a social at their home in aid of queen carnival funds. Elag five-hundred winners were Mr, and Mrs. E. Morrow, Mrs. H. Pennington and Miss D. Wright. Competitions were won by Mrs. J. Nielson, Mr. L. Pennington and Miss A. Pennington. Ping pong winners were Mrs. D. Pennington and Mr. K. Mischefski. A social evening in aid of queen carnival funds was held at the home of Mr. J. Mitchell, when Mrs. Bert Field and Mrs. J. Tosland were hostesses. Euchre prize-winners were Mrs. L. Morris 1, Mrs. J. Dalton 2, Mr. L. Ward 1, Mr. C. Johns 2. Pingpong winners were Mrs. L. Ward and Mr. W. Mail. Competitions were won by Messrs. T. Waiwiri and T. Norgate. A social evening to raise queen carnival funds was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs, H. Brewer, Rahotu. Card winners were; Women, Mrs. M. Dodunski 1, Mrs. R. Morgan 2; men, Mr. L. Morris 1. Mr. Rosser 2. Competitions were won by Messrs B. Field, J. Waswo, D. Fleming and W. Morgan. A gala evening held as part of the queen carnival campaign was well attended. Stall holders fm the three queens .were: North, Mrs. .1. Nielsen, Mrs. E. Corric and Miss M. Wright- central, Mesdames R. Morgan, E. MacRae, L. Morrow and Miss J. Freeman; south, Mesdames C. Field, J. Dalton and L. Ward. Dancing and other amusements were held.
