Visit to Show. — Farm course students of the Opunake District High School will pay a visit to the Hawera winter show tomorrow (Wednesday) for instructional purposes. The school will observe a special holiday for the occasion, and no douht many families will take the opportunity to visit the exhibition. Storm Plays Havoc. — All sympathetic souls thought kindly of the “trouble-men” on Saturday night, when an electrical storm, accompanied by heavy rain and hail swept the district. The storm affected the supply system of the Opium Ice ElectricPower Board, hut. working at full pressure, the workmen maintained services in most creditable fashion.

Truby King Memorial. — In addition to the amount recently _ acknowledged in connection with the local appeal for the national memorial to the late Sir Truby King, a further donation of £1 has been received from Mrs. H. G. Blackman. Intending subscribers are reminded that donations may bo made to the secretary of the Opunake branch of the. Blanket Society, Mrs. W. A. Laing. or to the afdiliafed sub-branches. Wrecked Car Attracts.—

The local garage tq which the car involved in the fatal accident ou Saturday was brought by the break-down truck attracted considerable public interest and there were numerous visitors yesterday to the premises to view the wrecked vehicle.. Although visible damage is almost wholly confined to the front of the car, if is believed that, such is the strain .imposed on the chassis, the vehicle is beyond repair and will he almost a total loss.

Alpine Enthusiasts.— Lust year, many local mouutenthusiasts made frequent trips to Mount Egmont, Hud they opened another season on Sunday, when a party of 22 residents visited Dawson 'Falls. Ihc party crossed the -lower slopes of the mountain by the (rack leading to the Stratford plateau, and thence travelled by wav of the Mangonui Gorge to the Mangnnui hut > and ski-ing' ground. Here, various members of the party tested their skill on the skis, some with marked success and others with marks, at any rate.

Coastal Boxers. — The newly-formed Coast n.l Boxing Association supplied several of the competitors at the amateur tournament at Eltliam on Saturday night, and their eon eh, the Rev. E. L. B. Grib hie, had every reason to be satisfied! with their performance. Four ot the boys secured bouts, and two' were successful in winning on; point decisions. One contest was, drawn, and only one loss wasi suffered. The coastal association; is achieving splendid results m, its endeavours to encourage in- t forest in the sport of the roped > arena.
