GOLDEN WEDDING
MR. AND MRS. D. HOLMES A FAMILY GATHERING Widespread interest was created in the district on Saturday, June 10, when Air. and Mrs. D. M. Holmes, senr., of Watino Road, celebrated their golden wedding. The celebration took the form of a family reunion, all members, of the family, together with sisters and brothers of Mrs. Holmes, gathering to offer their congratulations. Hosts of telegrams and telephone messages were received from friends all over New Zea land, and the honoured couple received a gold bouquet and but tonhelc from members of the Anglican community at Pihama. together with a similar presentation from their children. Many tandsome presents were received )V Mr. and Mrs. Holmes.
Those present were: Mrs Thompson, daughter and son-in-law (Patetonga), Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Sutton, two sons and one daughter (Martou), Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Julian and three sons (Pihama), Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Holmes, junr., three sons and one daughter (Pihama), Mrs. C Holmes, two sons and one daughter (Hamilton), Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Holmes and four daughters (Te Anga), Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Holmes, one son and four daughters (Geo), Miss Gwen Holmes (Opunake) and Mr. R. Thompson. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. A. Porteou* (Hawera), Mr. and Mrs. E. O'Hanlon (Opunake), Mr. and Mrs. C. Cameron (Tauranga), Mr. and Mrs. L. Fischer (Rahotu), Mr. and Mrs. H. Fischer and familv (Pihama), Mr. W. Markham (Opunake ), Miss K. Campbell (Otakeho) and Mr. J. Derecourt (Pihama). Pride of place on the festive table wa« a two-tiered weddimr cake, made by Mrs. Holmes, senr.. and decorated by Mrs. Thompson.
