COMPLETE COVERAGE

tOO P.G. MEMBERSHIP

EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTE j

Few organisations may claim a complete membership roll of all persons eligible tor membership, but this is the record of the Egmont branch of the IS cm Zealand Educational Institute, as reported by the president, Mr. 0. W- Williams, at, the annual meeting last week. Membership for the past year comprised 42 senior and one junior, representing; 100 ]icr cent of the permanent senior teachers in the district. Through non-payment of dues by some members, funds of the branch showed a slight decline, but the finances were sound, stated the president Attend anc es at seven general meetings and three meetings of the management committee held during the vear had been excellent, and many interesting addresses hail been featured on the programme. Operating in conjunction with the South Taranaki branch, the branch tendered a farewell to

Mr. C. N. Ha slam, senior m sued or. in May of last year. AIJ" dresses were given by Mr. R- R. Hunter (classroom practice), Miss R. Dav (experiences as an exchange teacher in England) and Mr. J. Green, an exchange teacher from London. The branch was represented at a meeting at Hawera- where Mr. D. 0. Pryor, vice-president of the institute, cave an address in connection with the new salary scheme.

From the educational stand-

point, the year had been an iippnrfant one, ushering in the milk in schools scheme. Physical edu-

cation had received greater stress, and there had been much building activity which raised the standard of school buildings, and had a consequent effect upon school efficiency. Benefits which would accrue from the introduction and application of the new salary scheme were reviewed, the chief* advantage being greater stabilitv of staffing, while the solution of the difficulty presented by very large classes would be found to a large degree in the new staffing scale . Thanks were extended to Messrs. D. C. Pryor, vice-presi-dent of the, N.Z.E.1., G. R. Ashhridge, secretary N.Z.E.1., the central executive, Messrs. R. R. Hunter and T. F. Warren, inspectors, Education Board members and staff, and the
