SEVEN WICKET MARGIN

STRATFORD TOO GOOD

Although, for a time, there was a possibility of a batting collapse oil the part of the visitors, Stratford secured a comfortable victory over Upunake in the. senior B cricket contest at the High School grounds on Saturday. The poor showing by the local team in the first innings, was almost repeated by Stratford, but Walls and Richards refused to be. shaken, and they contributed to a handsome lead on the first strike.

Opening for the hurne eleven Donnelly left the crease, withou scoring, but Dobbin, with Ale lavish! made the second wickei worth a good total, anil reachei 16 in good time. A succession oJ failures brought a speedy end U the innings, which closed with 26 on the board. Richards, with five for 10, Collins, four for lti, bowled without a respite. At the tea adjournment, Stratford's position was similarly dismal, five wickets being down tor 20 runs', but Walls, 22 and Richards 11, pulled the game out of the fire, and the tail saw (JO up. Donnelly was the principal bowler, finishing with an average of five lor IG.

There was a little more fire in Opunake's second strike, and the more creditable total of 54 was posted, Snell's 20 being ;i bright episode, 12 runs coming from three successive strokes. Richards again took five wickets, the expense being 14 runs, and the remainder went to Collins. The visitors batted again in failing light, with 21 runs required for an outright win, attacked the bowling with spirit. Three wickets were down when that number was raised. Details are as follow:
