BETTER THAN EMN
. WOMEN DRIVERS STATISTICS IN FRANCE The woman driver of France is, according to niotoringwmthorities, a more reliable p«Pon on the road than the man. Ten years ago there was hardly a woman to be seen in charge of a car, to-day the women drivers of France number some 400,000. And women, it seems, are better drivers than men, for the reason —or so say the authorities—that they are more careful. Women, say the authorities, like to own an unscathed car, so they take the precaution of driving slowly and of allowing the reckless to pass them by.
But that is not the only reason for their good road behaviour. Statistics have something to say. Of the men who apply for driving licenses in France, 44 per cent are*turned down on their prelim-inr-rv test. Of the wcmen who applv, onlv 35 per cent, are disnunlifipd. Which proves, it is said. *J»«t the women have taken a good ne»»l more trouble to prepare themselves for the ordeal of examination than have the men.
