FOOTBALL MATCHES
LODCES STEP OUT AT DOMAIN TO-MORROW 1937 has certainly been a record season for Rugby football in Opunake, and the public has had some sterling exhibitions served up each week at the Domain, but' we doubt if anything yet seen will eclipse the collection of real talent which will take the field to-morrow.
Readers, we invite you to look over the names of the three teams listen—then reflect—cast your thoughts back over a period of (we won't risk the number of years), visualise these champions in their heyday, and ask yourself the following questions : How many have worn the silver fern? We have just had another look through the list). The answer is "None."
How many have worn it? (This to be answered by members of the team). Is it a fact that in the event of the" referee misinterpreting the rules, any argument will be quickly decided on the field of play? Our answer to this, after a word with Alec, Bob and Joe, who are all in the same team, is that the "Ayes have it" on a majority of three to one. Is there any truth in the report sociation is feverishly sending out that the St. John Ambulance AsS.O.S. signals for assistance at this match and have had special night classes of instruction. in cases of "loss of wind," "parched throats" and "general weariness" ?
Have members of the Springboks secretly constructed a "possie" to view this match to pick up valuable points which would probably serve to defeat the All Blacks in the first test if carried out in the same finished manner? Is it really true that the rep. selectors of the Parihnka Kindergarten intend being present to see if the talent displayed would make it worth while staging a match between their stalwarts and the pick of the lodges at Athletic Park, Wellington, and requesting the New Zealand Union to stage the first rest as a curtain raiser?
