BOWLING

VISIT FROM STRATFORD ON THURSDAY NEXT Hound about Christmas time, interest in bowling flags for a few weeks in most centres owing to the difficulty m securing enough players to make up a sufficient number of rinks to carry on friendly- games with outside clubs. Most of the smaller towns postpone club competitions until the middle of January' when the members regain their keenness, in a marked degree.

On the local green, during the past three weeks, very little play has taken place, but willi a_vis.it of four rinks from Stratford on Thursday and the proximity of the Lauibie Shield pairs competition, howlers will settle down to some hard practice in preparation, for events ahead. It is considerable time since the Stratford Club paid Opunake a visit and the mateh'on Thursday is being looked forward to very keenly. The local club will put in four rinks from whom quite a good showing should be made. The green is in fast order and given fine weather, an enjoyable afternoon will be provided all who take pari.

BUCHAN’S PROGRESS IN AUCKLAND TOURNEY Great interest is being taken in the progress of an Opunake player in the New Zealand rinks championship now taking place in Auckland. R. Buchan, who is skipping a four from Te Aroha has done excellently, gaining a victory in each of the six games played on the first three days. All members will wish him a continuance of this success with the hope that, the title will come his way! The harder the opposition, the belter Buchan seems to-like it and providing his rink plays up to form, he should he one of those in the final picture.
