PRESENTATION

TO PIHAMA TEACHER.

A garden party, which was well attended by parents friends and scholars, was held at the Pihama School on Saturday afternoon, to bid farewell to Mr. and Mrs. -I. Jolley, on the eve of their departure for Pakipaki, Hawke's Bay, Mr. Jolley having been appointed to the school in that'district. Afternoon tea was partaken of after which Yvonne Stevenson presented Mrs. Jolley with a charming bouquet made bv Miss Faull. ' Mr. J. S. Tosland, chairman of the school committee referred to the splendid qualities of their guest as a teacher. Mr. Jolley did not apply forcing methods; he treated each child as a unit and brought out its individuality. The result was that he had the confidence of each child and therefore brought the best out of them all. Mr. W. A. Sheat endorsed Mr. Toslaud's remarks and regretted the Jolley' s departure from Pihania. lie referred to the present educational system and how a good man must move to another school if he desired promotion. He congratulated Mr. Jolley upon his advancement and wished both Mr. and Mrs. Jolley the best of everything in their new environment.

Mr. Allan, an old committeeman, also spoke. Mr. Tosland asked Mr. Jolley to accept a winter fireside chair as a token of esteem and appreciation from the district school and residents. Mr. Tosland presented Mrs. Jolley with a crystal barrel and Master lan Jolley with a book. He called for cheers for their departing teacher and the children and those present lustily responded. Mr'. .Jolley. on behalf of his wife and himself deeply thanked all for their beautiful presents. He would cany away with him happy and pleasant memories of the many kindnesses shown him while be was at Pihama. He also thanked the committees who had so harmoniously and cheerfully assisted him in the school's Aveliare. Mr. and Mrs. Jolley leave today for their new home at Paki-
