ROVERS WIN SHIELD. PIHAMA DEFEATED. The Pihama ladies were beaten for the Taranaki Shield by Hovers (Hawera) on Saturday by one goal to nil after a very interesting game. The teams were as follows: Rovers: Misses 13. Stevens (captain), P. Wylds, H. Cosgrove, I. Prime, K. Peterson, B. Donaghy, S. Lovell, I. McGlashan', D. Nightingale, M. Guy and I. Reid. Pihama: Misses A. Conaglen (captain), J. Forsyth, M. Conaglen, P. Templeton, V. Hall, A. Glengarry, M. Corkill, M. Fischer, D. Willcock, J. and T. Riley. The Came. Rovers rushed play from the bully to Pihama's goal-line where T. Riley was penalised for obstruction. Rovers got no advantage from their free hit and Pihama took charge of the ball and manoeuvred play to Rovers' territory which ended in a corner hit. From a series of penalty corners Pihama missed at goal badly. K. Peterson relieved Rovers from a tight corner by putting well up field for J. Richards to return and M. Corkill and P. Templeton both missing at goal. From a line-out Miss Guy and Miss Wylds worked their way to Pihama's territory where Pihama were penalised for sticks. From the free hit play went up and down'field, both,goalies stopping hard shots at goal. A free hit saw Rovers pen Pihama in their goal, J. Forsyth relieving by hitting down midfield just as the bell sounded for half time.

The second spell opened by Pihama having shots at goal, all proving unsuccessful. Rovers then took charge of the field and their forwards carried the ball to Pihama territory where a smart goal was registered. Rovers 1 Pihama 0.

Prom the half-way bully Pihama again took play to Rovers' goal hut were penalised almost at the striking moment. A penalty corner and Rovers rushed downfield, Miss Prime Jiolding the ball. Miss Riley again saved for Pihama. Pihama retaliated and from a long corner Miss Stevens broke through but was stopped by the Pihama full-back and the ball went out of play in Rovers' territory. A throw-in and Pihama worked play to the circle and a touch and go was played for several minutes. Pihama were unable to goal, play at this stage being held up owing to injuries received bv a player. On resuming Pihama held the advantage, pressing Rovers hard but were unluckv not to goal as the bell souiided and the final score read—
