BURGLAR AT NIGHT.
BUSINESSMAN BY DAY. An ex-president o£ Harrogate Chamber of Trade and a leading business man in the town, Isaac Broiwn, aged s'6)i principal iof 'the local firm «f Brown and Son, painters and signwriters, was charged at Harrogate with being in possession of housebreaking implements and assaulting a police constable. Inspector Moorhouse said that at 2.10 one morning P.C. Burrows saw Brown climbing a rope hooked to a wall at the back of a shop. Brown had nearly reached the top when he saw the constable, and sliding down struck him on the face and neck with a leather bag, exclaiming, “I’ll kill you!” P.C. Burrows closed with Brown, and after a struggle managed to blow his whistle. P.C. Brothill went to his assistance, and Brown was handcuffed and taken into custody. In his pockets were found a pair of pincers, a flash-lamp, and a bunch of keys. In the leather bag were a brace and a bit, a pair of rubber-soled boots and a keyhole saw. In reply to the charge, Brown said: “I was only finding a place for the night.” Brown was remanded and allowed bail
