Advice has been received from London that Richard Allen, aged 21, Melbourne, has begun a solo flight from England to Australia by easy stages. Mr. Allen had planned to have a New Zealand companion who at the last moment was unable to accompany him. * « * • The Otago executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union passed a motion protesting against further borrowing for erecting such buildings as the proposed Dunedin post office, also against the extravagant nature proposed for the building. It was stated that taxation which the country could not afford must follow such expenditure. * « « * Claiming £SOO damages from H. G. Rodney Goldingham, \Vanganui, for breach of promise, Kathleen Margaret McGreevy was awarded the full amount by Mr. Justice McGregor. Plaintiff stated that Goldingham telephoned her on the night before the wedding stating that he was not going through with it. The action was not defended. * * * * The Chinese newspapers report that Jthe -whole of the Nanking Cabinet has resigned, with the result that Chiang Kai-shek is left in complete control of the Government. There is some talk of China becoming Fascist though it is expected that within a week arrangements will be found whereby the Government will continue.
