LADIES’ HOCKEY
WIN FOR OPUNAKE. Weather conditions were against sport of any kind on Wednesday last but this did not prevent the ladies from carrying on the hockey competitions. At Opunake, the local ladies met the team from Auroa and after a hard tussle gained the victory by 1 goal to nil. The Auroa team were fairly strong in the backs but the forwards were hopeless when in the circle, many chances being thrown away by bad shooting. The state of the ground no doubt had a lot to do with the low scoring. Miss Baylis scored for Opunake. Mr. McFaydcn refereed.
PIHAMA AGAIN WIN. RAMBLERS BADLY DEFEATED. The Fihama ladies’ team have advanced a further stage without defeat and on Wednesday last ’ won their match against the Ramblers by six goals to nil. The record of the Fihama • dub is excellent and the team that proves too good for Fihama during the course of the competitions will need to be one composed of fast, strong hitting players. Mr. W. J. Shepherd refereed. MANAIA DEFEAT TOKORA. FIVE GOALS TO NIL. This match was played in the rain, but this fact did not deter the Manaia ladies who put up a good performance in registering live goals. Messrs Winter and Millar refereed.
