CALF REARING

JUDGING AT PIHAMA. SOME HIGH-CLASS ANIMALS." The playing area at Pihama presented a very busy scene when the winning animals from Group X were judged. It was a good and highclass lot of calves that met the eyes of the judge and he had a busy and interesting time. As elsewhere, a feature of the day was the small number of school winners that did not turn up for judging. This factor added much to the honour of winning in such com-/ pany.

The judging party had the pleasant and almost unique experience, so far as the competitions are concerned oi being entertained by the school children, who did all the work of entertaining themselves and did it well, showing themselves excellent waitresses and attending to their visitors really well. Appreciation of the kindness was happily expressed by Mr. Page on behalf of the party, with special reference to the pleasure experienced by the judges at seeing so many parents present. This, he said, was a factor that, was going to help the movement in no uncertain way. Tlie judges during the day were Messrs. H. Hodge (Alton) and Mr. L. S. Barraclough (Hawera) at all three centres, Mr. J. D. Scott and Mr. George Ford at two. The whole day was one of the best experienced in this year's judging. Results were as follows: Jerseys.

Jerseys.—L. Nicholls (Otakcho) 1, R. McCandlish (Opunake) 2, M. Kirk (Auroa) 3.

Friesian.—J. Dickson (Pihama) 1, Lois Davics (Otakeho) 2, T. Hargreaves (To Kiri) 3. Shorthorn-Friesiaii.

Team of three to go to Elthain.— Lindsay Nicholls, B. McCandlish, M. Kirk.
