TARANAKI AND AUCKLAND
THE FIELDS REVIEWED
Turf enthusiast will have plenty of sport during the Christmas and New Year holidays. There will be the Taranaki Jockey Club’s meeting at New Plymouth on Monday and Tuesday next and the Stratford Racing-Club’s meeting on the following Monday and Tuesday. 1-or both these meetings special trains will run and it is expected that there, will be a large attendance oi people Loin all pnrts of Taranaki.
Auckland will also hold high carnival and during the holidays there will be four days’ racing at Ellerslie and four days’ trotting at Epsom. The prospects for the various events are reviewed by our sporting writer “Spectator.” NOTES. (By Spectator) Monday next sees the opening of the big Xmas racing carnival. Flags will be flying at New Plymouth, Elicrslie, Palmerston North, Waipukurau and numerous plaow in the South Island. Taranaki sports will be mostly interested in New Plymouth, Auckland and Manawatu. The day’s fun opens with: TARANAKI. HUATOivI PLATE.— 7 furlongs—w.f.a. Kyngzone and Service. BOROUGH HANDICAP.—for 2 and 3 year-olds. Te Atdwa and Golden Wedding. HURDLES.—I2 acceptors. Highflown and Poteen. STEWARDS. —A hack 6 furlongs. Subdivision and Miss Mercia. AMAS HANDICAP. —The big race of the meeting—run over 1J mile course. S.eepy Sol and Monoghan are a pair that should be in the firing line. TIKORANGI STAKES. —5 furlongs with set weights. Town Bird, Eka and The Swell. HACK CUP. —This should be one of the star items of the meeting. Brightglow 8.12, Bisox 7.0 and Anchor 7.8. ....i.d have a great say at the finish. The day’s programme concludes with the OPEN SIX. —Ovation 8.4 and Tip Tree 7. should give supporters a good run. MANAWATU. HURDLES. —Pouri and Elysianor. MAIDEN. —Tone and Le Champ. HACK MILE AND DISTANCE.— Limosa and Boy. CUP. —Joybiid and Novar. NURSERY. —High Disdain am,J Siler r Rule. HAC K SlX.—Arikiwai and Shining Star. OPEN SlX.—Civility and Epistle. FOAL STAKES.—The richest 2 year I o’d event in the Dominion. Childs--1 pinv. Stasihunter and Ridgemount. ROBINSON HANDICAP.—A 7 furlong Hack event and from appearances it looks like a division race. Orchus and Antrim Boy.
AUCKLAND CUP—The richest handicap in New Zealand. 20 acceptors. Without a doubt one of the most open races for a long time. Still “Spectator” sums them up as follows: Footfall, Rapier, Star Stranger and Te Monanui and. in the order named. HURDLES.—Anchor and King’s Guard.
