MANGAHUME. •

(From Our Own Correspondent.) A large and representative gathering of people witnessed the varied programme at the concert on Friday slight, all voting that it was good for a country show. Although rain fell early in the evening oniy a limited number of people were prevented from attending. Mrs R: J Morris presided at the piano and her pupils ably responded to her splendid tuition, thus proving that all they need is efficient training to convert them into pleasing singers. Miss Jean Kirk and Mr D Enright gave bright displays of Highland and Irish dancing, while the celebrated Professor Knobtickler tickled the knob of a gentleman from the audi ence to such purpose that the said gentleman ' rounded " on the Pro fessor who became greatly alarmed for his safety. , A number of Opunake.business people motored out to see their country cousins perform, thus showing that they are capable of appreciating rural efforts. Their presence in the andience was noted and any superfluous silver in Mangasume is hkely to find its way townwards in stead of going to the mail-order houses in the big centres. The library-fund benefited to the imountof £6, which.wiil be correspondingly supplemented by the Education Department. Mr C Warner has donated a large number of valuable books to the library and the gift is much appreciated. The ever-ready "Charlie" is dways to the fore in kindly acts and much of the drudgery at concerts, etc., is cheerfully undertaken by him. The scholars and teachers are unanimjusitl voting him—"A jolly good Fellow." !

Hay croos are showing a heavy growth, having responded well to irtificial m inuring. In some instan ces, spring feed has allowed to mature for hay, instead of being used exclusively for green feed. A local resident has purchased a new gramaohone, which livens up several honiss, as it is unse.fiihiy played in the open air when the weather permits. Gardenings to music relieves the drudgery of digging and the enterprising owner, who is a braw Scot, has the thanks of his neighbours. Many ladies are engaged in making -summer apparel but the; weather is greatly against fhi wearing of it. . We hope that Summer will soon set in, so that long talked f picnic parties may eventuate.
