In Memory of the Boys.

In a corner of the school grounds at Te Kid-the' same grounds in which many -of the boys played—stands to-day a fitting memorial to the memory of thc-se lads who gave their services to their country in the Great War and paid the supreme sacrifice. This monument will perpetuate for all time the memory of the men from the Te Kiri district wfyo with self-sacrificing devotion gave their young Jives in defence of the Empire; and will be a reminder that there is no nobler duty than to sacrifice self in the service of all. It is not (he memory of the war that is perpetuated by this marble monu-ment,-but the memory of those game lads whose names are inscribed thereon who fought to save their country from the domination of the German. The roll of honour contains the names of nine fallen men. They are: Sgt. C J Hurst, L. Corp. R Mawhinney, Privates J P Ewen, E J Friday, S Gilbert, A Simpson, G W Tindle, J W Coupe, and Driver L W Hawton.

The inscription on the memoria reads— " For Freedom's Cause

Dedicated by the people of Te Kiri to the memory of those Te Kiri boy£ who made the supreme sacrifice in the Great War, 1914—1918."

"Live thou for New Zealand. We for New Zealand died"
