Opunake-Eltham Railway.
In reply to the resolutions passed at a meeting of the Eltham Opunake Railway League and the Eltham Chamber of Commerce, Mc-E. Parrots secretary of the League, has received the following wire from the Minister of Public Works (Hon. W. Fraser): —■ I have to thank yon for the expres« sion of approval conveyed by your meeting in yonr wire re the route for 'be Opunako railway. I intend to start work on the line as soon as specifications for small contracts are ready for inviting tenders therefore.-—W. Fraser.
TURNING THE FIRST SOD. Mr 0. A. Wilkinson, M.P., supples us with the following copy of of letters addressed to the Rt Hon. W. F. Massey, Premier, and to the Hou. W. Fraser, Minister for Public Works ; and reply thereto, in connection with the Opunake railway : “Eltham, 30th March, 1914. “ Dear Sir, —
“Ee Opunake railway :
Aa member representing the district through which the above railway will rt u, and on behalf of Opuoake and other districts interested, I have pleasure in cordially inviting you and the Hon. W. Fraser, Minister for Pub ic Works, together with any other members of the Government who would find itoonvenient to be present, to attend the function of turning the sod at Opunake, on a date which of course you will fix to meet your convenience.
“ I would strongly urge that the fiist sod be turned within the next month if possible, and can assure you lhat your welcome will be enthusiasand will show appreciation of the action of the Government in at lehgth starting this very much desired work.

“ Your letter of BCKh übimo inviting Prime Minister and myself to attend function of turning first sod of Opunake railway received, and I accept same with pleasure, and will give you timely notice of date on which that important function will take place. (Sgd) “ W. Fraser, “ Minister Public Works.”
