TOY WE WEKE SUCCESSFUL. (By the " Odd Man.") Among all ancient warriors their IUOMBS was achieved by knowing the right man or the right thing for respective places or positions. With onr " Terrors," however, things were different. Nature provided all things to work out for their own suocess. It is known that soldiers must not bo a day behind, bd we were provided with a " Calendar." We also had an "0* Day " to spare, and for calls we had a "Sharp-Campbell." On cold mornings we bad coffee ("Symonds,") " Wheatley " bread, and "Lay(b)ard" eggs. Soldiers are very Buperßtitious, bo we had our prophet " Moses," who predicted that our noble " Mariner " had lost the enemy " Francois" and " Bremen " upon a stormy sea, the fight would now evolve on "Landfy.)" We were quite prepared for a leader iB having a " King " for an organiser, a " Morgan " for a scout, a " Ounningman," and two ••' Warners." For earthworks we had " Toss(edjland," and so of course we had •• Vicktry." In negotiating barbed-wire fences our clothes suffered many a tear, but we had only to take them to our " Strong-Taylor." In engagements casualties will occur, but we had a (hospital) " Ward," and greatly missed "Dr Napoleon Endsaw." To write up casualties and last testaments we had a "Clarke," who is also a "Mr Sew-and-So." The hard roads were rough on the feet of the horses, but we only had to go to "de Forges." All victories must be oelebrated. We had a dinner menu card. Broth " Rookes," though we greatly missed the " Martin " ; Dessert:—We all felt thankful for " Viotry " when we stormed ' Grande Duff.' No banquet would be complete without some old vintage. We had two ; Clarets.' Of course we had recreation: * Morris ' tube. We also had our sports, and some excitement was caused when we raced a ( Looney.' All well-regulated camps should be looked after spiritually, so we had a • Kirk.' Our local people Bay soldiers contract debtß. They are still * Owen.' Now, loldiers are wry fond of the Terp. •iohorean art, If a tutor, onr instructor well did play hii part; But it wm plain to tee the only one in ■tep wu " Asbby." To make tbem " Orend Marob " I use the iron rod, Tbua oonflded tbat grim old " war bone " Sergeant-Major Dodd. Now tbe eamp being ended, To our *' Holmes " our ways we wended. Though I would seorn to be a deeeiver, I mußt admit we do not want any " Moore-Feaver." Tans :—" The old oow died on."
