At the meeting of the Taranaki Executive of tbe New Zealand Farmers' Union, held on Thursday la?t, Messrs P. O'Dea (member of the Wanganni Education Board), and R. Browne (supervisor of technical education) waited on the Executive to obtain their assistance to provide one scholarship towards the proposed Agricolcural College, promoted by the Wanganui Education Board. On the moMon of Mr Davids n, the Exeautive henrtily approved of the proposal, and will do all in is piwer to assist, the question of finance to be considered at a fuller meeting. Extensive alterations and additions have been rffrcte'd to the Hawera Foundry, of whiuh Mr J. Hopkirk is proprietor. The foundry has been thoroughly renovated and is now fitted up with the best machinery. The busness will more than favorably compare with any other of its size in the Dominion. While the iron trade is said to be somewhat slack in most parts of the Dominion it is remarkably brisk in South Taranaki. This is attributed to the fact that preparations are in progress tor the forthcoming milking season, which entails the manufacture of dairy machinery requirements,—Star.
