Wednesday, September 18. The ordinary monthly meeting was held at Rahotu. Present: Messrs J. Rothery (chairman), 0. S. Stronge, G. Sorrenson, W. R. Wright, and P. Willoox. The minutes of the last ordinary meeting and special meeting were read and confirmed. foreman’s report. The following roads had received attention during the month : Upper and Lower Waiteika, Ta Namu, Opua, Ngariki, Manihi, Upper and Lower Kahui, Saunder, Tipoka, Capo, Pungarehu, Bayly, Burgess, Warea, and Ihaia. Warea road requires 50 cubic yards of boulders; Bayly road needs eight chains o: new metalling; Kina road wants about one week’s work with two 1-horse teams for carting gravel for making up the road ; Opua road requires 60 yards to put it in order. The contract for stone breaking on Lower Kahui road (25 yards) is completed ; also for patching and metalling on Tipoka road (250 yards); carting boulders on Warea road is finished with the exception of a few yards. The Chairman pointed out that the funds would not allow of much expenditure ou account of the auditor not being round. Resolved, That outside repairs be held over until next meeting. Resolved, That the clerk write to the auditor, requesting him to come, and audit the books at once. (Willcox—Stronge.) CARRINGTON ROAD, The Taranaki County Council wro.te asking the Board to co-operate in getting the Government to open up the Carrington road. Members said the Board took action some time ago, and wrote to the Government in reference to it, but they were also prepared to co-operate. Resolved, That this Board heartily co-operates with the Council in the matter. (Stronge —Sorrenson.) INSURANCE. A communication was read re insuring Board’s employees. Resolved, That all contractors doing work for £2O and over be requested to insure their men before signing contract. (Willcox— Stronge.) PUNIHO ROAD. Mr Thos. W. Fisher, Public Trustee Agent wrote to the Board with reference to their request for having the above road opened up. He could not see his way to recommend more than £l5O towards the cost of it, and suggesting tbat the settlers raise a loan to complete it. Members did not think that would suit the settlers, as the latter expected more assistance. Resolved, That a copy of the letter be sent to Mr Gill, on behalf of those interested. (Willcox--Stronge.) WIREMU ROAD. Mr Sorrenson brought up the matter of the Ihaia and Opua roads being charged with the expenditure on Wiremu road. Mr Wright bad given notice of motion objecting to it, as he thought it unfair to charge the two roads with the £45. Mr Stronge saw no other way out of it than saddling the whole district with it. Mr Willcox said the work was done some years ago, and it only benefited a friend of a member of the Board. He raised an objection to the expea- _ diture at the time, but the work was done. The Chairman said the Board was not certain whether the Wiremu road was a main road, and thought it better to leave it over until they found out, whichjwas agreed to. Mr Sorrenson said his reason for suggesting that Ihaia and Opua roads be saddled with the amount was because it was going to be charged to Ihaia road, which he did not consider fair. WIREKINO ROAD BOARD, Mr Wright gave notice of motion to move at next meeting. That the clerk of the Parihaka Road Board write to the Treasury re the adjustment'of accounts with the Wirekino Road Board, and the upkeep of Puniho road ; also that a copy of the notice of motion be forwarded to the clerk of the Wirekino Road Board. POUND. Mr A. J. Dunn offered to build a pound on a | acre site, to consist of two pens, one being for diseased stock, if he had the right to receive all fees for three years. Members thought the area was too small. Resolved, That, Messrs Wright and Rothery be authorised to make arrangements for a pound being erected, as there were one or two places which were thought probable sites. GORSE. Mr Sorrenson said be had noticed a lot of gorse growing on various roads. Messrs Willcox and Wright said they hoped the Board would not freeze on to one or two persons, but go for the lot.
