Farmers’ Union.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Farmers' Uni u was held in the Foresters’ Hall on Suturdoy last. Mr Stevenson occupied the chair and there was a good attendance of members. The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirm'd. FREEHOLD. A letter was read from the Taranaki Executive requesting that this branch wire at once to the member for our.district urging upon him the desi» ability of casting his vote on the side of the freehold as per the following resolution : “ That this executive resolves to use every possible endeavour to bring pressure to bear on Parliament so as to secure the right of Crown tenants under lease in perpetuity to acquire the freehold of their holdings at the original capital value, plus 1 per cent.” After a long discussion on the above subject it was resolved That this branch of the Union absolutely refuse to ask our member to support the resolution passed at the executive meeting, unless all leaseholders under the West Coast Settlement Reserves Act, and the Lands for Settlement Act, be included in the resolution. The above was carried unanimously. SINGLE TAX. It was unanimously resolved That the secretary write to Mr Maxwell asking if he would kindly read his paper on the single tax question at the next meeting. CONDOLENCE. The meeting unanimously passed the following resolution : That this branch of the Union extend their deepest sympathy to Mrs McHardy and family in their pad bereavement, SHEEP TAX. Mr Lambie moved : That as the object for which the sheep tax was first imposed (viz., the eradication of scab) has for many years ceased to exist, that this branch considers that that tax should not now be collected. Seconded by Mr Cross and carried unanimously. VOTE OF THANKS. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to all those who assisted at the Farmers’ Union concert and dance. The meeting then rose.
