The Opunake Times. FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 1900. DAIRY INSTRUCTION.
Mr McGowan, Dairy Instructor, has been spending two or three days at the Opunake Co-operative Factory, and left yesterday afternoon for Kaupokonui Factory. He informs us that his services are available for any factory on an application to that effect being made to the Dairy Commissioner. He is prepared to speud a few days at each factory and give instruction to the manager, more particularly paying attention to the questions of losses that a company may be suffering from, either through faulty separating or after manipulation of the cream. Mr McGowan has the advantage of being chosea for the work on account of his practical experience as a factory mauager, and is therefore doing good work. We think it quite probable, with some of the present leakages stopped, that a pound of butter might be made with a pound less milk than the average quantity which is now used to do it. It has been mooted from time to time that the co-operative factories should combine and employ a man to supervise, which would no doubt be a good idea, but in the meantime they can get the services of a thoroughly competent mao for the asking.
