Opunake Racing Club.

The annual general meeting of members was held on Wednesday, the 24th October. Present— Messrs H. W igstaff (in the ebair), G. Neweham, M. Fraser. M. J. Brennan. J. M. Hickey, J. Guy, J. C. Bead, M. Callander, j. Mddenhall, and G W. Rogers. REPORT. Your committee has now the pleasure of presenting to you the balance-sheet for the past season, which shows a credit balance in the Bank of New Zealand of £139 2s 2d, and assets amounting to £660 2s Id, with liabilities nil. The items of receipts call for no special mention, except that of commission received from the totalisator, which, in common with most other country clubs, has largely increased, but your committee desires to call attention to the large amount £24 10s of unpaid members’ subscriptions, and would impress upon members the necessity j for prompt yearly payment of these, more particularly as the annual subscription (10s) entitles a member to one ladies ticket, as well as his own, both of which entitle the holder to free admission to the course, and access into enclosures. The last annual meeting was the most successful the club has ever experienced, but your committee would draw the attention of members to the fact that, in this, as in previous years, the Electric and Final Stakes were a gift to one horse, and they would suggest the advisability of altering tha next programme so that these two events may be conducive of more sport and interest. Your committee has to thank Mr H. B, Good for acting as judge at the last meeting in place of Mr A. W, Budge, who was unable to be present. Your committee also regrets the loss the club has sustained through the demise of Mr M, Carroll, who was one of the first members and for years a steward and member of the committee. The course committee reports that the grand stand, post and rail fencing, and picket fencing are in good order, and that the course property has been leased for 4 years from the 18th August 1899, at 12s per acre per annum for sheep grazing only. Your committee recommends that one pound per acre be paid on account of the purchase of the freehold of the course, which will absorb £72 7s 4d and that arrangements be made after the next race meeting for fencing course, lengthening the same so as to make it one mile, and erecting the necessary offices, stewards stand, &e, H.
