PIGS.
(to the editor.) Sir, —Your loader re pigs will be somewhat inclined to mislead farmers as to value. You say farmers can get for pigs. This is so far correct, but they must be fat, goodbred barrows or maiden sows, and topped up for at least four weeks on grain. Rough pigs and half-fat are of no more value than they always were, and sows that have littered are unsaleable to any bacon factory except at a very low price, equal to about 2d per lb. These prices apply only to pigs trom 120 to IGO lbs in weight. Any weight over IGOlbs means a loss of d-d per lb on the whole pig for each 20lbs over IGOlbs, thus a pig ISOlbs weight is only worth 3d (less head and feet), 2001bs 2yd, and so on, and the farmer has to pay all costs of transit to the factory. Factories will buy by live weight, but deduct -Jd for loss, head, &c.—l am, &e., Edwd. J. Dudley. Broom, Opunake, Feb. 17, 1898.
