Proposed Farewell Social.

About thirty ladies and gentlemen attended the meeting on Thursday evening in the Foresters’ Hall for the purpose of arranging a farewell social to Constable Twomey and Mrs Twomey. Mr Geo. Rogers, Chairman of the Town Board, presided. The Chairman briefly explained the object of the meeting, stating that Constable Tworaey had been stationed in Opunake for many years, during which time he had gained the respect and esteem of all classes for the conscientious manner in which he had carried out his duties, and it was with a general feeling of regret that news of his departure was received. At the request of a number of townspeople he had convened the meeting. He would call on Mr Scott to give any further information to the meeting. Mr W. D. As Constable Twomey was debarred from accepting anything in the shape of a presentation, he would move that a farewell social be tendered to Constable Twomey and Mrs Twomey, and that a presentation bo made to Mrs Twomey. Seconded by Mr Knowles and carried. The following committee was then chosen to carry it out; —Messrs \V. D. Scott, J, M. Hickey, F. Des Forges, Christie, and J.
